The second part of dancing for fitness looks at even more dances that can improve your health and give you the opportunity to meet new friends and to learn something new. In part one we looked at some really different forms of dance that offered something completely different in terms of health benefits and the disciplines of the actual movements. In this blog we look at popular dance classes that are now a normal form of keeping healthy and that many people regularly attend.

Zumba

Zumba classes seem to have taken over the world, and many people consider it as one of the best ways to workout that has ever been invented. It focuses on the dance part of the exercise workout, low and high intensity exercises are intermingled to infectious Latin rhythms. Zumba is a mixture of everything from South America, from mambo, flamenco, salsa, tango, you name it and it is in there somewhere. People often move on from Zumba classes to take more formal Latin dance classes, such is the allure of Zumba.

Tango

Tango is a great dance that can be expressed in many ways, the Latin music can be slow but it can explode into a short burst of activity. It is a really good form of getting and keeping fit as you do not have to be particularly healthy to start and any age or sex can enjoy a session. Tango is infectious and can lead to more formal dancing lessons and not just a workout class.

Tap Dancing

Tap Dancing

Hold on to your hat as you enter into the world of tap dancing, okay there is one drawback to this fabulous form of dancing and that is you will have to purchase a pair of tap dancing shoes, but once that is done you can tap away until the cows come home. Tap dancing is great cardiovascular action, being Ginger Rogers for a couple of hours will certainly be good for your heart. Tap dancing is really sociable and great fun, and you will learn balance is the key to the dance. Also tap dancing is excellent for your posture as you will need to use muscles around your core to balance your weight over your dancing feet. There are many moves in tap dancing that will also offer great aerobic benefits that include, jumping and landing on different feet, shuffles etc.

Salsa

Our final dance style is Samba, another Latin American dance. Many people are now attending salsa classes to get to know new friends and as a way of keeping fit. The dance has everything, it is sensual, sexy and a great deal of fun. Attending salsa classes, you will learn all the basic steps and gradually move onto all the fast spins and elaborate footwork later on. It is estimated that you can burn over six hundred calories an hour in salsa classes which is up there with the best traditional forms of aerobic burnouts. There is no doubt that dancing brings a fun element into your exercise regime, it also gives you the opportunity to meet new friends and learn something completely new.
